Catherine Roome
President and Chief Executive Officer

Catherine is the President and Chief Executive Officer of the BC Safety Authority. She has been with the Safety Authority since 2005, first as Vice President of Engineering, and then Chief Operating Officer. A professional engineer, Catherine received her Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Victoria. She is the recipient of several business and leadership awards. She is proud to lead an organization of 300 employees who live and serve in communities across BC, and are dedicated to public safety.

Sue Gagne
Director, Human Resources

Sue joined the BC Safety Authority in 2009 as the Leader, Human Resources and was appointed to Director, Human Resources in May 2011. Previously, Sue worked for a number of companies in the Human Resources and Organizational Development areas. Her most recent positions focused on leadership development, organizational change, talent management, and employee engagement. Sue holds a Master of Arts degree in Industrial and Organizational Development Psychology from the University of Guelph and is a member of the BC Human Resources Management Association.

Phil Gothe
Vice President, Technical Programs

Phil Gothe joined the BC Safety Authority as Vice President, Stakeholder Engagement in January 2009 and was appointed to Vice President, Technical Programs in July 2011. Specializing in Business and Organizational Development, he has led development and execution of business strategy in forest products, helicopter and heavy equipment industries. Phil began his career in naval operations with the Department of National Defense. He graduated from the Royal Military College of Canada, has an MBA from the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario, and obtained a Chartered Director designation from The Directors College.

Shelley Milne
Corporate Secretary and Vice President Legal and Policy

Shelley joined the BC Safety Authority in 2004 as Corporate Secretary and General Counsel. Prior to this position, she worked for many years at ICBC in several positions, most recently as Vice President, Corporate Law and Corporate Secretary. Shelley also worked in Hong Kong as a lawyer for three years with both Jardine Matheson Limited and American Express. She graduated from Dalhousie University with a Bachelor of Arts and LLB, and was called to the BC bar in 1980.

Erik Peterson
CFO and Vice President, Corporate Services

With over 30 years experience, Erik brings innovative financial management to the BC Safety Authority to better position the company for a financially sustainable future. Erik has held the Chief Financial Officer position, on an interim or permanent basis, at FPInnovations and Haywood Securities, having financially managed annual revenues in excess of $100 million. He has also provided consulting experience to a wide range of clients in the transportation, policing, and forest industries. Erik holds a Chartered Accountancy designation and graduated from McGill University with a Bachelor of Commerce.

Brian Rowland
Vice President, Operations and Service Excellence

Brian Rowland joined the BC Safety Authority in August 2011 with a mandate to focus on delivering client service excellence. Brian comes to the BC Safety Authority from Aeroplan Canada where he spent seven years in senior operational and delivery roles improving policies and member services. Prior, he spent 15 years as a consultant at firms such as CGI, Cap Gemini and EDS Canada helping organizations improve technology and business processes to deliver superior service to their customers. Brian holds a B.Sc. in Management Information Systems from Penn State University and a Master of Science degree in Marketing from the John Molson School of Business at Concordia University.
