Boiler Directive: Temporary absence of Chief Engineer

This Directive is being issued to owners and chief engineers of plants to provide an interpretation of temporary absence of a chief engineer to determine when a shift engineer can be appointed to be in charge of a plant in the chief engineer’s absence and when an application of a Category "B" interim power engineer's certificate of qualification must be made to permit a power engineer with a class lower than the plant classification to act as chief engineer during the chief engineer’s absence.
