Reference Number:

Revision Number:

Revision 1

This Directive is to clarify the requirements of sections 6.20 and 6.21, in CSA B149.1 Natural Gas and Propane Installation Code, for the installation of connectors and hoses approved for outdoor use.

Specific details

CSA B149.1 specifies CSA 6.27 as one of the standards to which connectors can be certified but does not specify when a CSA 6.27 connector is to be used. Connectors certified to CSA Standard 6.27 are for outdoor use and shall be used to connect outdoor gas appliances.

Clause 6.20 allows portable outdoor gas appliances to be connected using a hose connector but does not specify the standard to which hoses are to be certified. Hoses connecting outdoor portable appliances shall be certified to CSA Standard 8.4 Hoses Connectors for Portable Outdoor Gas Fired Appliances

For reference only:

Hose connector — a flexible assembled conduit that is not greater than 6 ft. (2 m) in length. For use on unvented portable equipment. (Except as permitted in B149.1 section 7.23)

Metal connector — a conduit constructed entirely of metal that can be corrugated or semi-rigid. For use on outdoor permanent appliances if certified to CSA 6.27. This includes roof top equipment.
