BC Safety Authority previously announced an upcoming increase of 20% to all BC Safety Authority fees for amusement devices effective September 6, 2011. With the strike at Canada Post occurring in June 2011, we were unable to deliver timely notification of this change to all amusement devices contractors. In order to give sufficient notice of this increase, we have delayed the effective date of the fee increase to October 1, 2011.
The fee increase followed consultation on the proposed fee increases for the amusement devices industry, conducted from February to March 2011. The feedback provided by industry indicated that the proposed increase of 73% would be too difficult as a one-time increase. For the full report on feedback received, the final report on consultation is available. After a careful review of feedback and the necessary costs to eliminate cross-subsidization by other industries, BC Safety Authority decided to implement staggered fee increases. Beginning October 1, 2011, fees for amusement devices will increase by 20%, with additional 20% increases occurring as follows:
October 1, 2011: 20% increase
March 1, 2012: 20% increase
September 1, 2012: 20% increase
March 1, 2013: 20% increase
As the 2013 fees are currently in effect, please see the current amusement devices fee schedule for 2013 fees, which reflect the changes described above.
