Understanding contractor licences

All contractors working with boiler and pressure vessel technology must be licensed by the BCSA. The conditions of your licence may allow you to perform maintenance, installations, testing, alterations or disposals. You need to have a licence for each type of boiler or pressure vessel technology that you intend to work with.

The established classes of contractor licence are:
(a) Pressure retaining equipment:

(i) Class A - Boiler, pressure vessel and pressure piping; fabrication and alterations
(ii) Class Au - Pressure vessel and pressure piping; fabrication and alterations
(iii) Class Ap - Pressure piping; fabrication and alterations

(b) Class B - Limited capacity boiler, pressure vessel and pressure piping

(c) Class REF - Refrigeration employing an ITA Refrigeration Mechanic

(d) Class SRV - Safety valve and relief valve service

(e) Class MA - Manufacturing shop

Class A, Au, Ap, MA and SRV licences

Remember all Class A, Au, Ap, MA and SRV licence holders can only work within the current scope of their quality control program and documentation.
