Licences
All contractors and companies that operate, install, perform maintenance, test and alter passenger ropeways must be licenced by the BCSA.
Applying for your licence
To apply for your licence:
- Complete the Passenger Ropeway Licence Application Form 1372.
- Include relevant experience details, including previous passenger ropeway maintenance experience, for the people responsible for maintaining the passenger ropeways. Identify previous passenger ropeway maintenance experience. Also provide any applicable trade certifications such as millwright or electrical trades and show evidence of recognized training for passenger ropeway mechanics such as the Lift 151-153 courses offered by Selkirk College.
- Passenger Ropeway contractors must have a Safety Management Plan.
- Submit your application to the Passenger Ropeways Client Service Representative:
a. Email: passengerropeways@safetyauthority.ca
b. Mail a cheque payable to the BCSA for the application fee
c. Or call 778-396-2026 and pay over the phone with a credit card.
In some cases, the Provincial Safety Manager will ask for an interview to discuss your knowledge of the adopted Canadian code for passenger ropeways and passenger conveyors, CAN/CSA Z98-07. You are also expected to be familiar with the Act and Regulations.
Renewing your Licence
Licenses must be renewed annually. If you have received a notification about your renewal, please complete the renewal form and submit to your nearest BCSA office, along with a cheque payable to the BCSA for your renewal fee according to the Fee Schedule.
Has your licence information changed?
To update your contact information or details of the person responsible for operations and/or maintenance of the passenger ropeway, complete the Passenger Ropeway Licence Application Form 1372.
Remember to check the update box at the top of the form. Submit to the Passenger Ropeways Client Service Representative, 778.396.2026, Email: passengerropeways@safetyauthority.ca. There is no fee for this update.
Ropeways Trainers Certificate of Qualification
Everyone that trains passenger ropeway operators requires a certificate of qualification. To get your certificate:
- Submit a transcript from Selkirk College confirming a pass mark for Lift 150 the Passenger Ropeway Train the Trainer Program.
- Provide training history details for the types of passenger ropeways you have experience with.
- Read the training directive and complete the contained form.
- Submit these documents by mail, along with a cheque payable to the BCSA for the applicable fee, to:
