Select Ortal TR90 and TR110 Gas Fireplaces Recalled

Health Canada has issued a consumer product recall for certain Ortal TR90 and TR110 gas fireplaces.

Product

This recall involves Ortal’s direct vent gas fireplaces installed by professionals, with model names Traditional 90 (TR90) and Traditional 110 (TR110) TR. The fireplaces have a black finish, operate using natural gas and propane gas, and can be surrounded by a variety of decorative framework mantelpieces. Model TR90 measures about 110.5 cm wide, 94 cm high, and 62 cm deep. Model TR110 measures about 123 cm wide, 94 cm high, and 62 cm deep. Combined model number and serial number is located on the rating plate found on the bottom of the fireplace, near the valve control using the format: US90XXTRP1SNXLXX or US110XTRP1SNXLXXX. Affected serial numbers (last five digits) are between 10316 and 21517.

Issue

Improper installation of the fireplaces can lead to problems with heat release and/or ventilation, posing a fire hazard.

As of January 19, 2023, the company has received no reports of incidents in Canada, and no reports of injuries. In the Unites States, the company has received four reports of incorrect fireplace installation, all resulting in fires, causing property damage and no reports of injuries.

What to Do

Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled fireplaces and contact Ortal to arrange for a free inspection to determine if a free retrofit plate kit is required.
